What a pleasure!

Hermione will be visiting. From the tone of her letter, however, it will not be an entirely happy reunion, but she and young Ron Weasley carry good memories with them. Perhaps it's an old man's selfishness, to have living reminders of bravery and victorious sacrifice about him, but they need not know their function in my heart.

Hmm. On rereading her letter, I'm not sure if I must break out the heavy-duty defence spells, or the good shortbread and a handkerchief.

News from the States, and a letter from Britain

Jul. 25th, 2006 | 09:24 pm

A note, delivered by phoenix:

Remus just came into my office looking, in his way, more excitable than I think I've ever seen him. 'Headmaster, did you see these?' he asked me, and handed me not only The Daily Prophet with the Ministry news folded on top, but several American newspapers, all with Sirius and little Karen Weasley on the front pages.

Sirius, Sirius... my goodness. You're making far more of a stir than I ever expected — and I expected quite a bit of you!

We should make plans together for your return to England. I know you have your ways, but the cornered beast is one that is the most dangerous. We should not expect Dolores Umbridge to act otherwise.

Most warmly and with great delight,

Albus

Incoming owl

Jul. 8th, 2006 | 11:27 pm

Fawkes gave a soft chirp as a strange owl - strange to Hogwarts, at least - flew through my office window open to the mild summer air and landed on my desk. It was Agatha, as it turns out, and carrying not just a note for me from Xandra, but to her friend hidden away in Canada.
A-

Thanks so much for your help. If you could pass this on, I’d be eternally grateful.

Things are going well here. The family situation seems all right now, and it’s given me a chance to see my parents again.

-X
The note, of course, only had his initial on it for security. And for security, there was only one bird who could be trusted to make the trip safely.

I told Agatha she could borrow Fawkes's perch for a bit of a rest after I gave her a few treats, and then handed Fawkes the sealed note for Claude. 'Off you go, lad, and don't dally with the quetzalcoatls this time, if you would.' He vanished with a puff and a song.

Now to let Xandra know it's on its way... Agatha, I'll have something for you in just a moment.

A summer visitor

Jun. 14th, 2006 | 01:28 am

Miss Bell should be on her way soon, to visit Poppy and brush up on her Potions. It's a fortunate thing that the professor is staying over this summer, excellent timing.

The wards should tell me when she's close, so I might greet her at the gate. I would ask Remus, but he's likely to embarrass her again.

Fawkes, would you like to do a recce for me?

Stealth owl to Dogstar

Well, there it goes, off to my friends, Sirius's Order — for it is surely as much his as it is mine at this point. What a tumultuous year and a piece for them and now... he's up to something.

And Sirius's 'somethings' have always been... spectacular.

Well, hopefully I'll get some letters back. With better news than of late. Now... where did I put my spare tin of sherbets?

A lovely way to start this off.

Remus talked me into this new form of journal-cum-Pensieve; he told me it has some aspects a conventional handwritten journal can't match.

And pleasantly, the first thing I may note here is that I've been invited to participate in the wedding of two dear friends, young people I've watched grow up. Charlie Weasley and N... ah, she never wants anyone to use her proper name. Tonks; there, I've said it how she likes.

It will be much simpler than Sirius's wedding, but of course, just as touching. I'd best get going.
